Important Updates & Info for Upcoming 2025 Season:

  • NEW for 2025! Due to popular request, our U16 division has transitioned to a competitive 7 vs. 7 division (please note: if registration numbers are low for this division age group, teams could remain at 5 vs. 5). There will be no scheduled practices, only scheduled games. Teams will be provided a referee, and games will take place on Sundays during regular season. Teams will be formed after the 2025 registration period has closed. To register for U16, players must have a minimum two years of football playing experience. For questions determining eligibility please connect with Chad @ rdmfpeewee@gmail.com.
  • Our U8 teams require parent volunteers! With little ones aged 6-7 running around, everything goes smoother when each team has a trusty ‘Sideline Parent’ on duty. As a volunteer Sideline Parent, you'll be the friendly face on the field, helping coaches and pint-sized players during practices and games. Your tasks will include tying shoelaces, reminding kids to keep those mouthguards in place, coaxing them to actually listen to their coach instead of busting out the Griddy, and making sure flags are not used as medieval weaponry! No football knowledge or experience? No problem! The more volunteers, the larger the rotation --so please join in! Stay tuned for more info on this volunteer gig closer to season kick off!

Equipment and Attire:

Equipment for Flag Football is minimal, as this is a non-contact sport. Required equipment includes the following:

  1. Athletic shorts or pants
  2. Football cleats or athletic shoes
  3. Jersey (provided with registration. Player may keep after the season ends)
  4. Adjustable flag belt with two flags (provided with registration. Player may keep after the season ends)
  5. Mouth guard (provided with registration. Player may keep after the season ends)
  6. Water bottle clearly labeled with athlete’s name
  • Players must tuck their jerseys in and wear their flag belt at the waist outside of their jersey and shorts. Flags are attached at the sides for ease of access of opposing players. New to Flag Football? No sweat, demonstration of proper fit will be addressed by your coach at the first practice!
  • Mouth guards are mandatory and must be worn while on the field. Players may choose to provide their own, as some dentists offer custom mouth guards which tend to be more comfortable for the smaller mouths. Failure to wear a mouth guard on the field will result in the player riding the sideline.
  • Players may choose to wear football cleats or a gym shoe; however, metal cleats are prohibited in our league.
  • Players may choose to wear athletic pants or shorts; however, please refrain from any pockets.
  • No exposed jewelry of any kind is prohibited while on the field.
  • Our season is 100% outdoors with unpredictable Alberta weather. We play rain or shine! We recommend layering your athlete and having an extra pair of socks. Hats are permitted on the field to protect from the sun.
  • Athletes must come fully dressed. We do not have changing facilities on site.

You’ll enjoy eight weeks of exciting play, with a break for the Victoria Day/May long weekend. For our U8, U10, and U12 divisions, you’ll get a mix of practice and game time split into 45-60 minute practices plus 30-45 minutes of solid game time. While our U16 players will dive straight into the action with refereed games. Just a heads up—prior football experience is needed for the U16 division.

Throughout the season, we’ll be firing up the BBQ for our players, coaches, and volunteers. We encourage family and friends to join us as we celebrate our awesome Flag Football community! Our games and practices take place on Sundays at our home base, Rosedale Field, where we’ve got both upper and lower fields ready for action. We’re proud to offer outdoor, portable washroom facilities and well-maintained fields. There is off-street parking, picnic tables, garbage receptacles, and two play structures on site. Plus, food trucks and vendors are always welcome to join the fun! So grab a chair and a coffee, and come join the Sunday Football Fun!

Can’t get enough football? We are constantly seeking dedicated coaches and enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our incredible team! Volunteers truly are the backbone of Red Deer Minor Football; without their support, our organization wouldn't have reached its ongoing success or become a vital part of youth sports in Red Deer—a distinction we cherish! If you're interested in getting involved, please contact Chad @ rdmfpeewee@gmail.com. We look forward to welcoming you on the field!
