COVID Updates for Fall 2020

As Red Deer Minor Football Board of Directors we would like to thank you all for being patient with us as several families have been reaching out to see what our plans are for the 2020 season.

We apologize for the delay but along with a lot of other organizations we have been awaiting the trickle of information from our provincial government and Health Services. We now feel we have enough information to say we have our Fall Registration up and running and are now accepting Registrations for the 2020 season. With saying that there are still a lot of questions still to be answered along with many details. We know there will be some questions going forward and we hope to answer them if you have any concerns. If we are unable to answer your questions, we will do our best to get you an answer.

As you may know we fall under the umbrella of Football Alberta; they have a very detailed plan to follow to allow us to return in a safe manor. We will also be following guidelines set out by Alberta Heath Services in conjunction with Football Alberta. There have been some other programs running small training camps this summer following those protocols with great success.

As we proceed into the 2020 season with some excitement that we are a go…. things will look different, but our goal is to make it feel as though it has not. As of right now we plan to start our season down at Setters Place as we feel the facilities will handle some of the aspects better. We are currently working with the City of Red Deer as to how that will look for practices and games. We will still use the Rosedale fields as well but with construction beginning on our new storage facility, we maybe down one field there this fall.

Game Play remains a big question…..

As of right now Red Deer Minor Football can handle up to 4 Atoms teams and 2 Peewee Teams. With an update today from Alberta Heath Services putting sport into Stage 2, we can run our Atoms in house with no travel and play only RD teams. This is not a big change for them aside from the couple of out of town teams unless this is approved when moved into Stage 3.

Our Peewees present us another challenge as our league requires travel to other towns for games. As of now, that will not be allowed based on Alberta Health’s current guidelines until we get to Stage 3 and it is approved. We are unsure when Stage 3 will be launched but as we have seen so far things move quickly and change daily. We will be working on a few options within our association to make sure the kids will get to play games this season, either on the road with opponents or in house.

We hope this answers a few questions as to how the 2020 season may look. We look forward to seeing everyone back at the field soon.

We are committed to providing more updates as we receive them. STAY TUNED!
